A vinyl phonograph record (LP) with its
jacket. An album usually has 6 to 12 cuts (tracks) which translates
into about 15 minutes of playing time on each side of the disk.
Often, single cuts from an album are released as singles. See:

The decorative wrap of a vinyl record album
consisting of photographs and/or artwork which is used to entice
a consumer to purchase the record. The album title along with
credit lines and back liner notes may also appear on the cover.
CDs and cassettes are usually packaged in clear plastic boxes
with this artwork and information printed on paper inserts.
To maintain maximum protection for the artwork and liner notes
with respect to the U.S. Copyright Law, the copyright notice is
normally placed on both the front and back covers of the album
(not on the spine). This notice should also be placed on the paper
inserts of CD and cassette packaging. See: PACKAGING,

A cover, usually shrink wrapped in plastic,
that a vinyl record album is slipped into for protection and storage.

Also called an "Original Cast Album,"
it contains the music and/or the literary performance of a theatrical
production (such as a Broadway musical). See: MUSIC
under "Dramatic Music."
Collectively combining the works of different
artists onto a new CD (also called a compilation CD), or combining
recordings of a single artist from a variety of albums and/or
singles onto a new CD.
Under U.S. Copyright Law, these type recordings are defined
to be a "compilation" and are afforded statutory protection
separately (in addition to) the protection already in existence

Industry Association of America (RIAA) to have sold 10,000,000
