The exclusive right,
granted by copyright law, to reproduce a copyrighted work in phonorecord
form, i.e., to make the first commercial recording of the work.
And also, to distribute such recording to the public by sale or
other transfer of ownership, e.g., by rental, lease, or lending.
These rights are called publishing rights. They do, however, have
some limitations defined by copyright law, e.g., compulsory licensing
is allowed after the first recording has been released to the
public or released to a record company for subsequent distribution.
