A business that buys records from many
record companies or manufacturers and sells to rack jobbers, subdistributors,
and retailers. A record distributor may do business locally (area
distributor), nationally (national distributor), or internationally
(international distributor). The largest record distributors,
of which there are only a handful, are called major distributors.
If a distributor, e.g., a one-stop or rack jobber, is a middleman
between a large distributor and a retailer, they are known as
